Just like mommy has!

Rebecca has the neatest way of passing on awards! Recently she passed on the Sunshine award to other bloggers by selecting a "sunny" or flower picture from The Australian Home Beautiful book that showcases Australian design for the last 80 years.

This is the picture she selected for me....a sunny yellow 1930s bathroom! It looked very familiar to me, so I looked in my little houses....

and found this bath set! This set was made by Strombecker Manufacturing Company and first featured in their catalog in 1936. Hmnn, picture that in your bath!
A lot of American dollhouse furniture from the 1930 era is brightly painted; I also have a lavender bath set that is part of the Happy Hour series made by Jaymar. I've wondered if the bright colors were a marketing ploy to attract the attention of little girls wanting dollhouse furniture. Rebecca's picture shows that at least some of the dollhouse furniture was true to the dollhouse advertising of "just like mommy has".
Thanks, Rebecca! I enjoyed every one of your personally selected design pictures!

  1. Great bathroom set. Is that a little fan or heater on the cistern?

  3. What an amazing coincidence! Or perhaps not, Rebecca really knows what we like doesn't she?
Both bathrooms are wonderful, I love the green color and the cut edges!

  5. Hi Pandora...I have always thought this was an electric heater, but I'm not sure if they had this type of electric heaters in the 1930s. Need to do some sleuthing on google!

  7. Pubdoll, I think Rebecca is a great "people reader". All of the pictures she selected seemed so appropriate for the individual...and personalizing them made them special...right? I love 30s houses (and bathrooms)...must be because I have lived in a mid-century modern for the last 41 years!

  8. How lovely to see the vintage photo and your Strombecker set together! They are so alike, even to the shape of the mirror. The bathroom in my mother's house, built 1935, also has a pale green basin and bath, with cream tiles and green trim - I should take a photo of it sometime!
And thanks for the compliments :-) I think we all show so much of our personalities and the styles we like through our blogs and scenes, it just took a bit of thought to find pictures that I hoped you'd appreciate.
